WORKSHOP COLLABORATION WITH JENNY GRAF

SAN ROQUE DE CUMBAZA - SACHAQA CENTRO DE ART

RESIDENCY - UPPER AMAZON, PERU, 2018

At the beginning of 2018, I met Jenny Graf, sound artist, during a one month residency at Sacacha Art Residency in Peru, just north of Tarapoto.

One of the outcomes over this period was leading a workshop for young people and interacting with local residents in the small village of San Roque De Cumbaza.

Over 5 days we led a sound and image workshop, inviting young people to investigate their relationship to the natural environment through the use of sonic sound equipment and film.

Through sound equipment- we were able to explore sounds which were either inaudible or difficult to reach, such as insect nests and water scapes. It was a great opportunity to connect deeply to the natural environment through these new sounds.

Through film, we interviewed local residents about their relationship to the natural environment, filmed our sonic experiments and documented the process.
